History of Trustee Board

 

A Trustee is a steward of the church, who has been entrusted spiritually and physically with the task of managing church funds, the church’s physical property and their assets. Early members of the Trustee Board were Turner Speller, Horace Ward, Harvey Rascoe, Sr., Sol White, Jr., Winston Balance, James H. Bond, Wesley Gray, Eddie (Blue) Watford, Lewis Carter, George Watson, Bud Mebane, W. H Watson, A. C. Cooper, and Lewis Cooper.

 

During 1970, the board acquired other members which included Charlie Stewart, Harvey Rascoe, Jr., Robert Turner Bond, Dr. Willa D. Hunt, and Sarah Williams, both served as the church clerks respectively. Under the leadership of Pastor Harold H. Murrill (1973-1985), Carl Kent Speller, James Miller, Jr., Booker T. Bond, Morris Rascoe, and William Bowen became Trustees. Lewis Carter became chairman of the board and Charlie Stewart became chairman after him.

When Pastor Shelton Barnes became pastor of the church (1986), the Trustee Board continued to expand and develop. The first females, Gail Wilson, Vashti Cooper, and Muriel Hoggard, were included as part of the board. Thereafter, Annie Craig, Nancy Wilson, Patricia Cherry, and Buneva Everett were also added. In addition to these women, the following men were added: Arlton Cooper, John Ward, and Anderson McCoy Phillips.

Trustee Annie Craig served as church clerk from 2000 to 2005. Afterwards, Sister Shirley Taylor took on the role as church clerk. Sister Alicia Small became church clerk in 2009 and continues in that position today.

From 2008 to 2011, Otis McClamy, Lockwood Craig, and Albert Barrow were chosen to serve as Trustees. Trustee John Ward served as chairman for many years followed by Otis McClamy and Arlton Cooper who has served from 2014 until the present time. The Board of Trustees has the arduous task of managing the finances of the church, as well as overseeing the physical structure of the facility. The Trustees do not take this responsibility lightly. They are here to serve.
