FLORAL COMMITTEE

In 1973, under the leadership of Pastor H. H. Murrill, members of the church saw a need to revitalize and beautify the sanctuary. Pastor Murrill thought flowers would be an added touch and Emma W. Speller, Dr. Willa Dawson Hunt and Mary V. Bond were inspired to carry out the vision. Each month, one or more members were asked to donate fresh flowers in memory of loved ones to be placed in the sanctuary.

 

In 1977, under the leadership of Pastor Shelton R. Barnes, the committee grew and continued efforts of beautifying the church with flowers. The committee then included Fannie Ward, Bertha Angel, Sweetie Green and Mildred Turner. In 2005, Emma “Peaches” Pugh and Dorothy Spivey joined the committee. In 2012, Elsie Morris, Cynthia Speller and Fannie M. Parker joined. Lorie Askew became a member of the Floral Committee in 2015.

 

The decision was made later to discontinue using fresh flowers donated by individual members to life- like artificial flowers purchased by the church. The flowers were beautiful and represented the four seasons of the year and holidays. They are currently used in both the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall. During the Christmas season, the beautification project expands to the outdoors and beautiful Christmas lights, wreaths and decorations may be seen.

 

We all know that God loves beautiful things, for HE has made everything beautiful in its time. The Floral Committee continues to enhance the beauty of the church by keeping flowers beautifully arranged and updated.
