Kitchen/Hospitality Ministry

 

Shopping at Davis IGA and bringing things from home is how the kitchen committee started at Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church (CLMBC) under the guidance of Mrs. Mary Basnight and Ms. Emma (Peaches) Pugh. There were other members such as Deacon James Miller and Mrs. Fannie Mae Miller. Also there was Sister Acerie Pugh who used to put Eunice in a chair to teach her how everything went. Since she was short, sitting in the chair made it easier for her to serve from the window. Being in the kitchen was like being at home, everyone got along so well it felt like one big happy family.

 

There was also Deacon Small, Deacon Rudolph Williams, Deaconess Doretha Williams, Sister Nellie Harrell, Sister Estelle Stewart, Sister Jackie Hyman, Sister Patricia Pugh, Sister Christine Bond, Brother Jerry Pugh and many more. Being part of this committee was more than just feeding, it was seeing people come together in good and bad times. Seeing people you haven’t seen in years but also making new friends along the way. The Ministry taught patience and also kindness; an experience that was truly enjoyed through the early years and will never be forgotten.

 

As we move forward there are many such as Sisters Joyce Rascoe, Marie Bunch, Pam Gilliam, Gloria Jean Gilliam, Diane Hyman, Lori Askew, Barbara Ryan, Jackie Miller, Sandra Bond, Deborah Freeman, Deaconess Dora Mitchell, Trustee Patricia Cherry Wynn and Trustee Nancy Wilson who have continued to build on that legacy. This ministry continues to provide excellent and delicious meals for all scheduled Church activities. Just as the kitchen is the heart of many homes, in many ways the Church’s kitchen is the heart of our Church. It offers us the opportunity to build closer relationships with Church members by working together in an informal Christian environment where one can display his/her special talents while serving God.
