History of women's ministry

Although, it was in the hearts and minds of others before the actual conception, on January 8, 2013, the initial meeting for the women’s’ ministry took place. On that date, ALL of the women of the church were asked to meet to respond to a needs assessment for the ministry. Approximately 20 ladies heeded the call.

From the Needs Assessment survey, it was decided to include women, ages 18 and over, to meet on the second Friday of each month from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., to identify areas of interests for the meetings, and to formulate a mission statement for the ministry aligned with the church mission statement.

Officers were then chosen and voted upon by the members. Officers chosen: President, Minnie Heckstall; Vice President, Jennifer Smallwood; Treasurer, Nancy Wilson; and Secretary, Tyiana Bond. At present, the officers remain in the position, except for the Vice President. That vacancy is soon to be filled. The current advisor is Reverend Naomi Bazemore.

The first official ministry event occurred February 8, 2013 in the Shelton R. Barnes Fellowship Hall. All events are centered around the mission statement, which is as follows: The mission of the CLMBC Women’s Ministry is to encourage women to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and in the knowledge of the Word of God; to empower women in the pursuit of their destiny; and to connect women of all ages through fellowship, Bible study and spiritual mentoring.

The average number of women who attend each ministry event is twenty-five (25). We have had guest attend from Emmanuel Full Gospel, Peterson Grove, Zion Bethlehem, Mt. Herman and Sandy Point. To date, we have had two guest speakers: Evangelist Martha Whittle and the author of Write the Vision, Kim Hodges.

Since its inception, the Women’s Ministry has sponsored Women’s Day, hosted the Senior Citizens Fellowship for two years, hosted a baby shower for our church drummer, Brother Asher Turner & his wife Gail; assisted with Relay for Life concessions, and assisted in various outreach endeavors.

The culmination of the first fundraiser of the ministry took place on February 8, 2015. On that date, the “change” women saved after shopping, was donated to the church. The women of the ministry, as well as all others, were asked to save their “change” for one month.

We are excited to have begun this journey! Continue to pray for the ministry and to pray that we live to exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit each day. All ladies are invited to join us and bring your ideas, talents, gifts, and abilities. We thank God for all that He has done!
